Description
Frank Donnelly joined the Navy in the fall of 1967. He was trained as a radio man. While stationed in Georgia, Donnelly would assist pilots unable to land on aircraft carriers to land at the field. He volunteered to go to Vietnam as part of Naval Advisory Group 42

Description
Paul Carew joined the Marine Corps shortly after graduating from Natick High School in 1970. Trained to be a radio operator, Carew joined the 2nd Battalion, "Hotel Company." 4th Marines, as part of support for a helicopter force based on the USS Tripoli. He went on missions to Vietnam and Thailand, as well as the Philippines and Japan. As of the interview in 2021, Carew is the Veterans Services Officer for the Town of Natick

Description
Joe Keefe entered the Army during the height of the Korean War. Sent to Japan, he served as a secretary to a colonel overseeing a replacement camp and depot in Tokyo. He helped process security and clearances, as well as POW documents after the armistice was signed.

"Doc" Blaney joined the Army on his 18th birthday in 1943. Trained as a medic and a paratrooper, he parachuted onto Utah Beach during the D-Day invasion at Normandy; he would spend the next six days treating the wounded in an old chapel. He was also at the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War in photo intelligence

Wade Tambor joined the Navy in 1955 and was sent to Officers Candidates School in Newport, R.I. After earning his ensign's commission, Tambor was sent to Adak in the Aleutian Islands for his first duty station. There, Tambor handled administrative duties. Leon Key lied about his age to enlist in the U.S. Army after years of racial abuse in Boston. He was trained in communications installation and repairs. After advanced training in crypto (computers), Key was sent to Vietnam with the 160th Signal Corps near Saigon. Dan Callanan left Malden Catholic High School in February 1943 to join the Marine Corps, because his father had served with the Marines during World War I. Callanan wouild be trained as an aerial photographer, and would serve in North Carolina, Florida and at Midway Island in the Pacific Theater.

Beatrice Wadland is a lifelong resident of Melrose; she currently lives at the home where her husband grew up. The daughter of a World War I veteran, Wadland remembers growing up during the Depression, and life on the Homefront during World War II. During the war, her husband worked for General Electric, helping develop the first jet engines.

"How can I make your job easier?" was the directive that guided Nick Zallas through a 40 year career in the military. He served with National Guard and Reserve units in the Army and Air Force in communications and military police. Zallas was part of a response unit during the Blizzard of 1978 in Boston, as well as the Ramstein Air Show disaster in German in 1988. Lawrence Mitchell joined the Air Force in 1953 to honor a friend in the military who had been killed in action and because "the uniform matched my eyes." Mitchell was trained in mechanics and sent to Japan, where he served as a diesel engine repairman at a radar installation monitoring North Korea.

"Pat" Flynn joined the Army in 1943, wanting to join the 10th Mountain Division as a skier. Instead, he was trained for combat infantry. He served with the 157th Infantry Regiment, and saw action in Italy and France. After the war, he stayed a civilian for about a year before rejoining the Army for another 20 years. Flynn would see action in Korea with the 9th Infantry Regiment, and in Vietnam as part of the Special Forces.

Michael Hamm joined the u.S. Army in 1982. He served as a radar operator with the 26th Infantry Division Mechanized, 32nd AddCom and the 1st Infantry Division in Georgia and Kansas as well as in Spangdalem, West Germany.
