Description
12-year-old Siyue is heartbroken after the passing of her grandmother. Siyue and her mother, Mei, travel to the Chinese countryside to clean out grandmother’s house, preparing it to be sold. This is difficult for Siyue. She misses her grandmother dearly. Siyue runs off into her grandmother’s pottery studio, where her grandmother once made her the clay Ocarina that she treasures above all possessions. In the studio, Siyue encounters a magical creature that steals her Ocarina and accidentally breaks it on the floor. At first the creature seemed hostile, but after the accident, it tries to help Siyue. Siyue repares the Ocarina, but it still won’t play. When the creature sees how upset Siyue is, it leads her out the studio window into a magical place where Siyue is able to reconnect with her grandmother’s memory.
